Science is producing an unprecedented amount of data on everything from predicting weather and ocean changes to searching for distant galaxies. Visualization tools allow researchers to explore these large datasets interactively without being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of data. Ultimately, visualization enables researchers to answer the important scientific questions facing us today.
Compute Canada is encouraging data visualization through their competition, Visualize This! All participants will access to the same global ocean model dataset covering the ocean, atmosphere, and land. Demonstrate your visualization prowess by leveraging the data to create a visualization which may involve interactivity, animation, an online presentation and/or innovative displays of multiple variables.
The challenge is open to researchers from all disciplines and, in fact, entries from diverse backgrounds are encouraged.
Winners will be awarded prizes including the honour of being showcased at Supercomputing 2016 in Salt Lake City in November. (Not to mention a better story to tell the public about Earth’s complex systems.)
